WTF?

Fox Host to Be Named White House Spokesman - Yahoo! News: "He will replace Scott McClellan, who is stepping down in a White House personnel shuffle intended to re-energize Bush's presidency, bring in new faces and lift the president's record-low approval ratings. McClellan had served as Bush's chief spokesman — the most prominent public figure in the White House after Bush — for nearly three years."

Hey Daraka!

Long time no talk, man.

Adam Weissman here. Dunno if you remember me-- we were in touch ages ago. I did some SEAC stuff, and mainly worked with Wetlands Preserve.

Anyway I am looking for an article to explain to a white liberal who seems to be having trouble grasping that being against racism is not the same thing as not being racist.

This is from an email she wrote:

"it may take me a while to respond to all of this.
without disputing your points, however, i'm curious as
to how you can spin your theory while ignoring the
salient point that I spent five years of my life
raising African kids (and sacrificing a lot not just
to their agenda, but their country's), and also also
work diligently in my own life to address the issues
you raise - and succeed more than even most liberals."

I'm trying to communication that complicity with institutionalized racism, benefiting from white privilege, and unconscious racist assumptions can very much be present in well-meaning people who don't view themselves as racists, and that doing something to help non-white people doesn't magically strip someone of racism.

Can you recommend something I can point her to?

My email address is adam@wetlands-preserve.org

Thanks!

Adam Weissman
